The Union Gospel is the ongoing collaboration between songwriters Dejha Colantuono and Mike Squires, rooted in a shared love of rock ’n’ roll and melodic soul. The project began with a collection of songs written and recorded alongside a rotating cast of musicians from Seattle and New York City.
In 2016, they launched The Subway Series—a weekly web series of raw, intimate acoustic performances filmed live in the New York City subway. Each episode paid tribute to a different artist or band, blending stripped-down covers with the ambient sounds of the trains and the people of the city. The series featured Jeff Wood on bass and was filmed and edited by Mikhail Torich (torich.nyc).
Their self-titled debut album, co-produced with Martin Feveyear, was released on vinyl in 2020 by Dejha’s label, Mad Meow Music.
The Union Gospel is currently back in the studio, working on new music set for release in Fall 2025. No big statements—just honest, passionate emotionally driven songs, played by people who mean it.
